Treatments

How do the treatments work?

Today's new light and laser technologies deliver precise dosages of energy to each vein, with minimal risk to the skin. During treatments, light energy is delivered through a special handpiece to the targeted vein. The energy is then absorbed by the blood vessels. The heat/energy absorption causes a thermocoagulation (heating and occlusion) of the blood vessel. The occluded vessel is then slowly absorbed. How many treatments will I need?

Typically, multiple treatments are necessary to achieve optimal results. Tiny pink and red vessels usually require two to three treatments to achieve acceptable results. Veins that are darker or purplish are usually more difficult to remove, and require more treatments. Treatments are spaced at two to six week intervals.

Are these treatments safe?

Yes. Lasers and intense pulsed light have been used safely for millions of treatments worldwide. These systems treat only the targeted vessels, leaving the surrounding tissue intact. However, some bruising or redness may occur.

What will my recovery be like?

Discomfort after the treatment is minimal. Your postoperative appearance will vary depending on what type of treatment we select for your condition.

After treatment, there is a chance of some swelling, redness and on rare occasions, some minor bruising or blistering may occur. Some bruising may appear around the treated areas. This can be covered with make-up if desired and will fade away in about two weeks.

Will the treatments work on my face?

Prior to treatment we will consult with you to review your medical history, skin type, prior treatments, and expectations. We will discuss your options and fully explain your treatment and projected outcome.

Do facial vein treatments hurt?

Most patients describe the sensation to be like the snap of a rubber band on the skin as the pulses of energy are delivered through the handpiece. Some patients opt to have a topical anesthesia. After treatment, the pain is minimal to nonexistent.

How long do treatments take?

Our treatment times are approximately 15 minutes, depending on the number of vessels treated and their location.

Will the veins return after treatment?

Optimal results can only be maintained with appropriate skincare. This includes the use of sunscreen, avoidance of sun exposure, and use of an appropriate cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. Over time it is possible for new veins to grow in, but these too can be erased.
